There's no real argument as to why it shouldn't be there. It allows you to watch good teams play, and for guilds who want to seriously make an effort to play GvG, they can see what builds better teams run. Sure they can copy that build easily, but you could before anyway during a GvG match - everyone picks a number and writes down the skills used by that person. Attributes are pretty easy to guess.

I believe (as Lifeinthefridge does) that Observer mode has led to more cookie cuttering then ever before. Although I'm not openly against it (I wouldn't be upset if it was in GW2) I'd kinda prefer if it wasn't.

yes
GW2 Will be totally different compared to the current GW. I don't see why there shouldn't be an observer mode. It would be like going a step backwards. Personally I enjoy watching some scrub r1000+ guild trying to run a top 10 guilds' exact build and being destroyed within 3 minutes. Watching it happen consecutively 5 times in a row is just hard on the lungs from laughing so hard.

It's useful when you want to see what the current trend of meta-game is, especially for high-rank GvG and HoH matches.
So, YES.

Obs mode has more overall benefits than downsides, in my opinion.
